PurplePecker Applications

Products: PurpleRecall and DaysToGo

Developer: PurplePecker (http://www.purplepecker.com)

Price: $14.95 each.

PurplePecker has released these two apps a few weeks ago and I had the chance to try them out, so here it goes:

DaysToGo:

DaysToGo is a great application that will let you display a list of events and the numbers of days from the due date. DaysToGo is based around its simplicity. You can customize the user interface from the font type and size to the background image/colors. DaysToGo works also perfectly in Landscape mode, and can be displayed on PocketPCs that use Dashboard thanks to the "MyDash" module. The program is available for $14.95. Check it out here.

Entering new entries is a snap. You can also select the priority level of the task to be displayed.

Clicking on the date will pop-up a useful calendar.

Handling the entries is also one of the strong point of DaysToGo. The events due on the day are highlighted in yellow. You can of course customize this the way you want!

Selecting the details of an entry will bring a small pop-up on the screen with the event's details. I wish Outlook Task would do that too!

The Legend is a very nice touch from the developers; this is something that is simply forgotten in many applications but the guys from PurplePecker did their homework right!

The option menu is as complete as those of programs such as Dashboard or Gigabar.

You can also save your personalized settings and use them again at a later time. This is a great addition to any software that has personalized items.

Here is the list of some of the included backgrounds. I like the "grass" one the best, reminding me of the XP default theme.

PurpleRecall:

Purple Recall is an adapation of an old game system that I used to play back in the days (man, that makes me sound old!). It requires users to remember the "keys" played by the PPC. The computer will generate different sound/key combo and users will have to recreate them in the same sequence. Once again, you can customize pretty much everything from the background color to the actual keys, mute the sound or event change them!

The intro screen brings up all the different options. You can play the game without any sounds by simply memorizing the keys flashing on the screen but I found it to be easier (and cooler) to play sound enabled.

The game interface: the graphics aren't the best quality (blame it on the snapshot as well) but the game is tons of fun! PurplePecker also placed the different menu icons on the screen's game-play . Nice little addition that adds to the great UI.

You can select different level of difficulty; each level has a specific number of keys that you can play with. Shown here is the normal mode.

Blue background... looking good!

If numbers aren't appealing to you, you can always choose different icons. Shown here is the plain buttons, but you can also select the "animal" or "fruit" themes.
Overall, PurpleRecall is a great game. The graphics aren't the best, but the game is so much fun to play. Watch out or you'll soon become addicted to it! The game also keeps track of high scores.
Bottom line, the best games aren't always the most demanding applications ever.
You can get PurpleRecall for $14.95. Check it out here.

As a final note I wanted to send a special thanks to Barry Starling from PurplePecker for sending me these two games and waiting longer than expected for the review. I also wanted to mention that both applications will work fine on any PocketPC (PPC2000 or 2002).
